Senior Systems Engineer


The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for management, administration and support of the Company’s technology infrastructure. This position will also scale the Company’s Information System (IS) resources in parallel with the Company’s planned growth.

Responsible and Accountable for:

  • Implement, administer, and support of the company’s technology infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to the installation, administration, and maintenance of  servers, routers and switches, and workstations.
  • Manage LAN/WAN consisting of routers and switches utilizing EIGRP and BGP routing protocols
  • Manage the Windows 2003 and Active Directory-based LAN/WAN environment including user / workstation permission policies and backup / restore procedures.
  • Engineer, develop, and implement various Enterprise Level Solutions running on Windows 2003 and 2008 Servers. Provide ongoing software maintenance, including updates and security patches.
  • Develop and maintain application deployment and PC imaging systems.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and solve potential hardware and software performance issues.
  • Support employees via email, telephone, and face-to-face interaction (Tier 3 support).
  • Mentor IS team members and assist Technology team with IS initiatives.
    • Must be flexible with scheduling to accommodate late nights, weekends, and holidays as need for system maintenance; available to be part of the on-call rotation for system emergencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of industry standard platforms is desirable including demonstrable experience with Cisco internetworking (routing protocols, hardening standards, QoS, Call Manager telephony systems and VOIP), Windows client and server operating systems (Windows 7, Active Directory, Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010, SQL Server, SharePoint, and System Center Administration), HP and Dell servers and desktops, and SAN / NAS / Deduplication appliance management (from fiber channel to iSCSI).
  • VMWare ESX experience.
  • Experience in common IS technologies — such as networking, DNS, anti-virus, anti-spam, SMTP, asset management, VOIP telephony, and VPNs.
  • Experience installing, monitoring and maintaining the health of a Windows 2008 Server and Active Directory-based network, especially in a 600+ user distributed environment.
  • Evaluation skill such as assisting new network or system technologies. Assist with the planning and design of future network architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform full-life cycle activities to include requirements analysis, functional decomposition/allocation, development of interface documentation, test plans, test procedures, trade studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot errors and determine their source (OS, hardware, software, etc.) Ability to repair problems or to quickly manage their resolution via third-party expertise.
  • In depth knowledge of the security risks to a Windows 2008 server and the ability to assist with implementation and maintenance of components and applications to protect systems from virus, spyware, and hackers.
  • Familiarity with Internet based SMTP, DNS, load balancing, caching and intrusion detection.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Ability to understand and be aware of possible suspicious activities or transactions by clients or by employees.  Promptly notify management as required by company policy if unusual activity is observed which could be an indication of  crime or efforts to evade reporting requirements.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work under minimal supervision are a must.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, and outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates with programming/scripting interest and experience are preferred.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience:  The successful candidate will have 5 to 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field
  • MCSE / CCNP Certifications preferred
